My little Kyle turned seven on Sunday, and we celebrated with a family dinner. But a few years ago, we celebrated his fifth birthday with a Camping Birthday Party theme. If you ask any of my boys their favorite place to go, I bet you a hundred dollars that they are going to say camping. They LOVE camping. So naturally, when I suggested that Kyle have a camping themed birthday party, he shouted with glee “yes, yes, yes!”
I thought it would be fun to share the photos of his Camping Birthday with all of you in a weekly series. Today I will share an overview of the entire party. I will share the details and even include free printables of the party decor throughout the rest of this week. So, come back tomorrow!
I kept the party small, limiting it to eight kids, and held it at a local park. Here is the table set up. By digging into my camping supplies, I was able to use items I already owned. A lantern, pie pans, bandanas and a checkered table cloth made the perfect camping table.
My husband built these colorful tents, one for each kid, complete with a faux campfire. The tents were the hit of the party. (I will share sources on how to make these this week)
After lunch, each child got to make their own trail mix.
Then, with our trail mix in tow, we went on a camp ground scavenger hunt. Each child got their own scavenger hunt card with a crayon attached. They could cross out the different items they saw in the park.
I made fun rustic water bottles with straps, so the kids could carry them easily. They were great because the kids got thirsty!
At the end of the hike, a treasure box was waiting. Inside….s’more kits were waiting!
The marshmallows were roasted over the barbeque.
Yum!
And since a birthday isn’t complete with out birthday cake, we celebrated with a faux campfire birthday cake.
Lastly, the kids sat down to open presents. Party guests received their own flashlights and were able to take home one of the tents as a gift from Kyle.
The camping themed party was a big hit with all the children. They loved being outdoors and able to run on the grass, they practically entertained themselves. I loved that the mess stayed outside and clean up was easy peasy!
Stay tuned for more detailed posts about our Camping Birthday Party on the blog this week.
Awesome party idea! I love the little tents. Going to seriously think about doing this for my son’s fifth coming up in August.
So cute!!!
You are the MOST AWESOME Mom of all!
Wow this camping theme is amazing. Very creative and the pictures are beautiful. Good job, Jill!
Thanks! It was one of my favorite parties to plan.
Was looking for the directions on how to make the tents.. Am I missing it?
Did you ever receive the tent instructions from Jill?
This is so cute! I want to do this for my little boys birthday! Is there a tutorial on how you did the rustic water bottles and straps?
